BALTIMORE —

Thousands of Baltimore City middle school students were treated to see an original production on a professional stage thanks to a new program.

It may not look like much, but the stage at Coppin State University is set for a new original play, " She a Gem ," and it's where all the magic happens.

"Everything takes place right here," student actor Jada Thomas said. "Essentially, this represents every standard row home in Baltimore. This is something we all kind of know, something we all grew up around."

"'She a Gem' is about four girls who go through a metamorphosis in their life, and part of that is to become this gem. And, part of it is this older woman who is on everyone's block, (who's) like, 'You're going to be something when you grow up,'" said guest director Rain Pryo
