COLUMBUS — Legislation that would prohibit sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of their victim is moving through the Ohio General Assembly.
House Bill 102, co-sponsored by state Reps. Roy Klopfenstein (R., Haviland) and Josh Williams (R., Sylvania Township), would also apply to individuals convicted of certain nonsexual crimes against children, such as kidnapping, abduction, and unlawful restraint. In addition to to banning these offenders from living within 2,000 feet of their victim, the bill would prohibit such offenders from loitering within 1,000 feet of their victim.
The legislation was approved by the House Public Safety Committee on Wednesday. If approved by the full House, the bill would then go to the Senate for consideration.
During sponsor testimony, Mr. Klopfenst
