VALLEY CITY, N.D. — Valley City State University President Alan LaFave has been tapped as Northern State University's next president.

LaFave served seven years as president of Valley City State University after working for nearly 30 years at NSU in Aberdeen, South Dakota. In September, VCSU announced it had a new record-high enrollment with more than 1,800 students, a 34% increase since 2012. The 2025 total includes more than 1,600 undergraduates and 164 graduate students.

According to a release from NSU, LaFave was a music instructor, provost and vice president for academic affairs while at NSU.
