PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Pedestrians in Arizona are nearly twice as likely to be killed in a road collision as the rest of the country, according to a recent study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

Researchers with AAA collected traffic data from multiple states, including Arizona, to understand and document differences in crash outcomes across demographic and geographic groups.

One key finding from the 136-page report : Between 2018 and 2022, Arizona’s male pedestrian fatality rate rose from 4.9 to 6.0 deaths per 100,000 males, while the female rate increased from 2.1 to 2.6.

Both rates are nearly double the national averages, which climbed from 2.8 to 3.2 for men and held steady at about 1.2 to 1.3 for women.

The study also found that male bicyclists are especially vulnerable.
