Will Cain, on his Fox News show on Nov. 5, declared he was opposed to mandatory smoking bans in bars. He said it should be left to proprietors to enact bans.
Cain was about 5 years old in 1980 when I opened my successful bar and liquor store at age 27 in southeast Alabama. Just about everyone smoked under my bar’s low ceiling but me. I will never forget each waking, throbbing “smoking hangover,” which forced me to spend more than $700 for an air filter over my bar. About every week, I would soak the filter in my stainless-steel sink, which would quickly turn the hot water black. My clothes reeked.
Today, what does pro-life Cain think toxic secondhand smoke might do to non-smoking bar employees and vendors, whose need for income coerces them to enter unhealthy bars?
I am thankful that
