Medical examiner names Fitchburg man who died after apartment fire

FITCHBURG, Wis. (WMTV) - The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the person who died after a Fitchburg apartment fire.

The agency said Daniel Colby, 79, died from the injuries he suffered in the fire.

Fitchburg Fire Rescue said crews responded just before 7 p.m. on Nov. 6 to Valley View Apartments, on the 2000 block of Fish Hatchery Road for a fire alarm going off.

Firefighters reported finding one person in the unit where the fire broke out. Officials took the victim to the hospital, where he died.

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office said it completed a forensic examination on Nov. 7. The agency said more testing is being conducted.

No one else was hurt in the fire.

Fitchburg Fire Department was investigating the cause of the fire.
