DENTON, Texas — Minutes after taking the stage, the two leading Democrats running for Texas Attorney General clashed in their first debate of the primary cycle.

“There is only one fighter on this stage you can count on,” said Joe Jaworski , former Galveston Mayor.

Jaworski went on the offense early attacking Nathan Johnson’s record in the state senate.

“ Nathan Johnson , when he had the opportunity to sit as a juror before Ken Paxton, he voted to acquit Ken Paxton on two charges that the House impeached him on,” Jaworski said. “Why would you give any comfort to that scoundrel?”

Jaworski then put Johnson on the defensive with Senate Bill 2972 that the legislature passed this year.
