Barely nine months after executing one of sport’s most shocking trades, the Dallas Mavericks have fired general manager Nico Harrison.

Harrison stunned the basketball world by trading Luka Doncic out of Dallas, with the then-25-year-old considered one of the best players on the planet.

The executive has come under intense scrutiny ever since, with ‘Fire Nico’ chants becoming a staple at Dallas home games as angry Mavericks fans voiced their frustrations.

On Tuesday (US time), just 11 games into a new season that has yielded three wins for the Mavs, team governor Patrick Dumont made the call to remove Harrison.

“No one associated with the Mavericks organization is happy with the start of what we all believed would be a promising season,” Dumont wrote in a letter to fans.
