By now all of Northeast Ohio knows the last truly memorable Cleveland Browns quarterback needs a liver transplant , and when he was extremely close to getting one this past weekend, fate intervened, he said in a video he posted to X. The liver he was set to receive was infected.

I understand all too well.

As many may have read, I had what has — so far — been a successful kidney transplant in September of last year. The road to that event wasn’t easy between enduring dialysis — a fate no one deserves — and waiting. I received three calls related to my transplant. The first was telling me that I was a backup in case the person in front of me declined the organ being offered.
