South Korean solar company Qcells announced it will temporarily reduce pay and working hours for about one-third of its employees in northwest Georgia, citing ongoing supply chain issues.
The furlough is expected to affect about 1,000 employees at Qcells’ Dalton and Cartersville plants, where imported components used in solar panel manufacturing have been detained by U.S. Customs officials. The company said the delays have limited its ability to keep production lines running at full capacity.
“It’s creating kind of a vacuum effect at the front end, so people aren’t able to get the needed supplies that they have,” said Carl Gabrini, interim assistant dean of Dalton State College’s Wright School of Business.
