CLEVELAND, Ohio — Akron police shot a man they say was pointing a gun at other people Tuesday evening.
An officer responded to Albrecht Avenue on the city’s southeast side after reports of a fight in a parking lot. When the officer arrived, witnesses said an intoxicated man was pointing a gun at people, Akron Police Chief Brian Harding said in a statement.
It’s unclear exactly what happened next, but the officer shot the man they say was brandishing the handgun.
The man suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.
He was uncooperative, and the officer made a “split-second decision” to shoot him, according to a statement posted to social media by Akron Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7.
