POCATELLO, Idaho — American Falls Reservoir, Walcott Reservoir and other areas along the Snake River may see fewer and smaller trout after a "persistent drought" stressed fisheries, Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) reports.
IDFG said that although the high-elevation snowpack last winter was substantial, warm valley temperatures limited lower-elevation accumulation.
Additionally, spring and summer had little precipitation and moisture, with prolonged heat added to the mix. That resulted in reservoir levels dropping sharply across Idaho Fish and Game's Southeast Region.
Officials ordered fish salvages at Glendale, Foster and Johnson reservoirs in response. IDFG in a news release said American Falls Reservoir was drawn down to 3% capacity.
Anglers in the area should expect changes to trout
