Suzanne Rogers, who has played Maggie Horton on “Days of Our Lives” for more than 50 years, announced she is in remission after being diagnosed with stage 2 colorectal cancer over the summer.

The 82-year-old actress shared the health update in an interview with PEOPLE , saying she sought medical attention after feeling something “wasn’t quite right.”

Rogers underwent six weeks of daily chemotherapy and radiation treatments after finishing filming for the soap opera on June 13. She described her summer as “rough.”

“It was radiation every day and chemo every day for six weeks, and it was tough,” Rogers said. She added that she did not lose her hair during the treatments.

The actress said the experience has shifted her outlook on life.
