Emergency repairs to the D&L Trail in Easton require the closure of the path for the foreseeable future, the path’s nonprofit manager said this week.

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor announced the closure Monday. It’s beneath the Dr. George S. Smith Memorial Bridge that carries South Third Street (Route 611) over the Lehigh River in Easton.

“FOR PUBLIC SAFETY, please turn around at the closure and DO NOT attempt to get by it ,” corridor staff, who are based at the National Canal Museum in Easton, posted to social media.

Easton is repairing the trail after officials discovered a portion breaking away into the Lehigh River, corridor spokesman Daniel DiBella told lehighvalleylive.com.
