PLAINFIELD, Ind. — A murder trial began in Hendricks County Wednesday for a Missouri man charged with intentionally swerving a stolen car into the path of an Indiana State Trooper standing on the road, killing him.
Eddie Jones is 20 years old now but was just 18 when he stole his mother's car in Sikeston, Missouri, and drove to Indianapolis with two friends. A license plate reader camera spotted the car on June 28, 2023.
Indiana State Police found the car at a gas station on Kentucky Avenue on the southwest side of Indianapolis. Officers surrounded the car and had their guns drawn. But Jones hit a police car and another parked car to get away and then led police on a high-speed chase toward Interstate 70.
