BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A former Bexar County deputy accused of accepting money from an inmate’s family to buy Whataburger will not be reinstated, even after the criminal charge against him was dismissed, according to Sheriff Javier Salazar.

Miguel Angel Rodriguez, 27, was arrested after investigators said he admitted to taking a Cash App payment from an inmate’s relative to bring food from Whataburger for the inmate.

Rodriguez, who joined the department in September 2024, was still in his one-year probationary period when the incident occurred. He was immediately fired from his position at the Adult Detention Center after admitting to the violation.
