A chemical spill had cleanup crews busy Wednesday in the frigid waters of Schneider Creek in Kitchener.
Containment booms stretched across the water to catch what appeared to be a fuel spill near Borden Avenue and Nyberg Street.
The City of Kitchener told The Record that they’ve been working with contractors since Tuesday to clean up a suspected hydrocarbon (oil) spill.
“The spill has since been contained, and cleanup efforts will continue until the material has been removed. The source of the spill is unknown at this time,” said the city.
Scott Cressman, communications for the Region of Waterloo, said they were notified by a member of the public and immediately sent out an environmental officer to investigate.
