KILLINGLY, CT. (WFSB) - State environmental officials have authorized an emergency drawdown of Old Killingly Pond after water and sediment began seeping through the dam.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection ordered the drawdown to reduce pressure on the dam, which spans 122 acres across Connecticut and Rhode Island. Extra pipes have been installed to release water from the pond.

“You see some rocks and dirt, that was all water,” said Susan Larrow, who lives on Old Killingly Pond.

“I learned to swim here as did my brothers. We have four generations that have been here, appreciating this and valuing the beautiful property,” said Gene Larrow.
