TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Toledo Fire and Rescue has terminated a firefighter who faced public backlash over his online comments regarding the deadly shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

TFRD announced Wednesday that Lt. Jeffery Schroeder has been terminated following an investigation that determined his online post was “unacceptable” and does not reflect the values or standards of the fire department.

He said in the social media post that he wished “the guy was a better shot,” in reference to the shooter who killed Charlie Kirk. The text of the comment under investigation reads as follows:

“Thoughts and prayers. Totally preventable and avoidable if not for the policies and beliefs of people like Charlie Kirk
