LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A vote to reopen the federal government may cause Kentucky’s hemp and CBD industry to shut down.
Legislation to reopen the government includes a last-minute provision that would reduce the amount of permissible hemp-derived THC in products, potentially crippling the industry in Kentucky.
“They’re just leaving us out to dry, and they are punching us in the gut,” Cornbread Hemp president and cofounder Eric Zipperle told Spectrum News.
The new hemp provision limits any product to .4 milligrams of THC per serving, even impacting CBD products that have been legal in Kentucky since before the 2018 Farm Bill.
