SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - 14,000 cars a day pass through an intersection designed for just a few hundred. Now, Sevierville looks to add a traffic signal at Old Newport Highway and Pittman Center Road.
Sevier County’s rural roads are getting hit hard with people avoiding the main parkway, hoping to avoid traffic.
Candis Hylton said she travels down Old Newport Highway and Pittman Center Road everyday. She said it’s not just a country road anymore.
“Not anymore. Feels very busy, very crowded over here these days, seeing a lot more traffic,” she said.
Neighborhoods, the college and tourists getting off the Parkway have added traffic to the two lane roads and delays at the intersection.
