A Vancouver woman was found dead outside a small resort in Belize in an apparent murder, said local authorities.

The body of Marty Ann Thorne, 67, was found outside Rawspa Cabanas in Bullet Tree Falls, a village in the Cayo district of Belize, by a caretaker just before 8 a.m. on Monday.

The caretaker told police he arrived around 7:45 a.m., and called out for Thorne but couldn’t find her inside the home. He checked the yard and found Thorne near the riverside.

“The body exhibited several apparent stab wounds,” according to a police report shared by Stacy Smith at the Commissioner of Police Office in Belmopan City, Belize’s capital.

The body was taken to hospital in San Ignacio, a town five kilometres away, for an autopsy.
