CLEVELAND, Ohio — A teen stole an off-duty Cleveland officer’s service weapon and police identification after a weekend robbery in the city’s Central neighborhood , officials said.
Just after midnight Saturday, the officer was pumping gas at East 40th Street and Quincy Avenue when a gunman approached and robbed him, according to police and court documents.
As the suspect had a gun pointed at the officer, a second person arrived and began stealing items from the officer’s car, police said.
The suspects stole the 24-year-old officer’s service weapon, police ID, wallet, car key and watch, according to Cleveland Municipal Court documents.
Later that day, Cleveland Police Detective Scott Carey secured an arrest warrant for the suspect, Kevin Jackson, 18, of Cleveland, records show.
