JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) - A Cole County judge is weighing arguments over whether it was legal for the Missouri General Assembly to redraw the state’s congressional districts this year.
Lawyers argued their cases in the first of many trials to come over a new Missouri Congressional Districts map on Wednesday. This is one of many legal challenges the new congressional map is facing. A decision from Cole County Judge Christopher Limbaugh is expected in a few weeks.
The lawsuit questions whether the Missouri General Assembly is allowed to redistrict without a new Census. The Missouri Constitution doesn’t explicitly say lawmakers cannot redistrict in the middle of a decade, so now the judge must interpret the law.
