PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - One Peoria Public Schools bus driver was commended for her composure and care, as her quick action helped a student during a crisis.
Carnisha Adams was given a Remarkable Spirit Award during Tuesday night’s board meeting.
In mid-October, Adams was driving a bus full of students on a field trip when one of them had a medical emergency. Adams calmly pulled the bus over and contacted emergency services and the on-call supervisor.
That student was rushed to the hospital and is expected to be okay. After an unplanned pit stop at the hospital, Adams was able to get the field trip back on course.
The bus driver and mother of eight said she was just happy everyone was okay. When it comes to caring for children, Adams said, “That is what I feel like I was meant to do.”
