PORTER COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police reports a trooper was traveling on S.R. 49 on Monday when he observed a Jeep Grand Cherokee speeding despite the snow and ice-covered road.

Police say the area where this occurred was also a construction zone.

The trooper then attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver initially failed to stop before pulling over on the ramp to US 30.

The driver was identified as 35-year-old Daniel Aguilar Ramirez, of Knox.

Police say Ramirez presented a California driver's license to troopers.

Authorities say Ramirez gave inconsistent statements as to his route of travel and destination.

A K-9 then conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle and alerted police to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.
