PHOENIX — Police have identified an 18-year-old man as a person of interest in a Saturday shooting in Avondale that left a 17-year-old girl dead.

The Avondale Police Department identified Emilio Andres Rivera, who previously was in a relationship with the victim, Rihana Kemplin, on Wednesday.

“We have received several inquiries regarding this ongoing investigation and appreciate the community’s concern and patience,” Avondale Police said in a release.

The shooting happened at an apartment near the intersection of Rancho Santa Fe Boulevard and McDowell Road around 6:30 a.m.
