CHARLESTON — Every time the Sherman volleyball team seemed to gain momentum in its quarterfinal match with St. Marys in the WVSSAC Class A state tournament on Wednesday inside the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center, the Blue Devils answered.

Playing without Brynnley Bulluck, who was out due to injury and has 415 kills on the season, sixth-seeded St. Marys still met the moment and swept the third-seeded Tide, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-20).

The Blue Devils advanced to Wednesday night's semifinals to face second-seeded Gilmer County.

"We believed that they could," St. Marys coach Stephanie Corathers said. "Watching film and stuff, we knew that they could. It's mental. It depends on what team of my girls show up, and so, they showed up."

St. Marys (26-11-1) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead
