LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Laredo Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is proposing taxes on Airbnb rentals following the success of the city’s first annual Coffee Fest, which drew between 3,000 and 4,000 people.

The CVB committee met on Nov. 6 to discuss the tax proposal, which comes as the holiday season approaches and more visitors are expected to stay in Laredo.

“The taxing department is still working with the different municipalities they already have. Once I have that structure, I think it’s going to have to go to city and then go to the council,” said Joel Vasquez, assistant director of the convention and visitors bureau.
