The southern lights, also known as aurora australis, danced across the skies in a majestic display of pinks, yellows and purples on Wednesday, November 12.

The Australian Space Weather Forecasting Centre issued an Aurora Alert, and it was visible in locations as far north as Queensland.

The sky was lit up in hues of purple, pink and red as the severe geomagnetic storm hit.
