Quick response, alarm system saves Spokane apartment from major fire damage

SPOKANE, Wash. – A cooking fire broke out this afternoon on the third floor of the Boxcar Apartments, according to Justin De Ruyter with the Spokane Fire Department.

The fire, near the intersection of N Grant St and E Sprague Ave, was quickly extinguished by crews. The fire only spread to the cabinets above the stove.

No injuries were reported.

Although the entire apartment building was evacuated, only one apartment has been displaced due to the fire.

The quick response was facilitated by the building's alarm system, which alerted the fire department promptly.
