WATERVILLE -- Protesters gathered along Main Street in Waterville to voice their disappointment with what they say is Senator Angus King caving to the republican party.

According to organizers, those gathered are frustrated with King's decision to vote with republicans to reopen the government without reinstating ACA subsidies that were slashed by the recent budget reconciliation bill.

"Under ACA, 70,000 people who are uninsured die every year as a result of not having access to health care. If they take away the subsidies, an additional 50,000 people a year are estimated to die," says Gigi Larrc, a protester at the event, "So we've got two parties squabbling about who and how many are expendable members of the United States."
