NEW BRITAIN – The Simsbury boys soccer team lost in the first round of the Class LL tournament last year.
“I didn’t want to have that feeling again,” Simsbury sophomore Keegan McCullough said Wednesday. “I saw how sad the seniors were. We wanted to go way farther this season.”
Simsbury is in Class L t his year and the Trojans have gone way farther. McCullough scored his first hat trick – and scored his first goal less than two minutes into the game – as Simsbury beat Newington 5-1 in the Class L semifinal game Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium .
The 14th-seeded Trojans (14-4-2) will face the winner of the East Lyme-Wethersfield semifinal (which took place later Wednesday night) in the Class L championship game either Saturday or Sunday at a time to be determined at Trin
