CLIVE, Iowa —

A federal funding bill that includes a nationwide ban on hemp products has alarmed Iowa entrepreneurs and agriculture experts.

They say the measure would remove creams, massage oils, edibles and drinks from shelves if signed by President Donald Trump.

Ashley Lambson, founder of The Happy Can, a hemp‑infused beverage, said the proposal threatens her company’s survival.

“It would wipe the entire company away,” Lambson said.

Lambson said she supports clearer rules but called a blanket prohibition excessive and misplaced in a spending package.

“We definitely didn’t feel it would be looped into the spending bill,” she said.

“We feel like it should definitely be something that is done separately to avoid a prohibition.”

She warned the fallout would extend beyond retailers.
