LOCKPORT, N.Y. — A 22-year-old man from El Salvador has been arrested in Niagara County following an investigation into a domestic disturbance, according to the county sheriff's office.
Manuel Gerson Castro-Cabrera was recently taken into custody by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau. He has been charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration.
Castro-Cabrera is being held at the Niagara County Correctional Facility.
In addition to the local charges, federal authorities have also taken interest in the case — a Department of Homeland Security Immigration detainer was placed on Castro-Cabrera by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which said he was in the country unlawfully.
