Mayor Eric Adams announced at the Laboratory School of Finance and Technology in the Bronx a new pilot program.
Banks will set up inside 15 public schools to teach students about financial literacy.
“We know if we bring financial services and education directly into schools, we are helping break cycles of inequality,” Adams said.
As a student, he said his family had no financial literacy at all.
The pilot program will launch next year, when he’s no longer mayor.
Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s transition team did not return comment to NY1 on whether the democratic socialist let bankers inside public schools.
“I’m not sure what type of banking system they have in socialist countries, but I like capitalism. I’m a capitalist,” Adams said.
