Almost 300 kids were expected to pick up free winter coats during the Warm Wishes clothing distribution Nov. 6 and 7 at Vineyard Community Church, 319 W. Bremer Ave. in Waverly.
“I don’t have an exact count of coats, at the moment, but I can tell you that we’re serving 293 kids today,” said Jill Krall, executive director of the Waverly-Shell Rock Area United Way that organizes the event. “We have more coats than kids, which is a good thing to have.”
As she noted, the extra coats will come in handy to supply winter outerwear to “families that didn’t think about it, families that thought they had a coat, families whose child grows, families who are new to the community—all those things happen.”
Surplus coats are not a problem.
“The good news is, they’re coats. They don’t go bad.”
