CHICAGO (WLS) -- Civil rights activist Rev. Jesse Jackson has been hospitalized in Chicago, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition told ABC7.

Sources told ABC7 that Jackson was being treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Details about his condition have not been released.

Jackson is "under observation for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a neurodegenerative disorder he has managed for more than a decade," a statement from Rainbow PUSH read. "Jackson, who was initially diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, received confirmation of his PSP diagnosis in April. His family asks for continued prayers during this time.

The 84-year-old gained national attention in the 1960s as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s protégé.
