PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Portland City Council spent all Wednesday afternoon and evening discussing a proposal to cut funding from a program that clears homeless camps from public spaces.
Councilor Angelita Morillo introduced an amendment that would cut more than $4 million from multiple departments that help with the sweeps of homeless camps and redirect $2 million of that money to food assistance and housing grants.
The amendment has sparked pushback from the mayor, other councilors and Portland residents who testified at the meeting.
The council has not voted on the amendment as of 6pm, but some councilors have indicated their positions. Morillo plans to vote in favor of her own amendment, but Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney sent out a statement Wednesday morning saying she will
