Georgie Gardner delivered an emotional farewell to Amber Sherlock after the weather presenter got brutally sacked following 18 years with the Nine Network.

Gardner went off-script during her Wednesday evening bulletin to address Sherlock's axing after she was notably absent from Monday night’s 6pm broadcast.

Her departure comes amid Channel Nine’s cost-cutting round of redundancies.

“Before we go tonight, we’d like to extend a farewell to our colleague Amber Sherlock,” Gardner said.

“For a number of years, Amber’s been a valued member of the news team, bringing us our daily weather reports.

“On behalf of Nine News I’d like to thank Amber for her contribution, and we wish her and her family all the very best.”
