NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A Deep East Texas law enforcement agency’s initiative to better serve those going through mental health issues is getting more help. The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office received an $80,431 donation for two new vehicles.

Nacogdoches County commissioners approved a reestablishment of the budget to use the money for the vehicles at Tuesday’s meeting.

They will be used for mental health deputies to respond to crisis calls. Mental health deputy Seth Stover said they average eight to nine calls a week involving someone having a mental health crisis.

“Overall, it’s helped reduce the load that the patrol offices and deputies have to respond to and get people into immediate treatments,” he said.
