The funding package to end the government shutdown, passed out of the United States House of Representatives tonight and now heading to President Donald Trump’s desk, has fractured Nevada’s Democratic delegation to Congress.
Nevada Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen were two of the seven Democrats who broke with the party for a deal with Republicans. That agreement did not extend the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits, Democrats’ main objective amid the shutdown.
The seven Democrats, along with another senator who caucuses with the party, did secure a promise to vote on the subsidies next month. However, with Republicans controlling both chambers and the White House, it has little chance of passing.
