US President Donald Trump has signed a funding bill to end the record 43-day government shutdown, the longest in the country's history, that led to major air travel disruptions, delayed food assistance and sidelined federal workers.

The President's signature came hours after the Republican-led House of Representatives passed the legislation on Wednesday by a 222-209 vote, despite opposition from House Democrats, who are outraged at their Senate colleagues failing to secure a deal for a guaranteed extension of healthcare subsidies.

Trump, however, blamed the prolonged shutdown on Democrats and urged Americans to remember this situation when they vote during the 2026 midterm elections.
