LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Families forever affected by the Givaudan food coloring plant explosion are urging the community not to forget about them, now one year after the deadly blast.

Malaika Watson lost her partner of five years that day, Givaudan employee Kevens “KD” Dawson.

“The scar will always be there. You can move this stuff and clean it up and fix it – but the scar of losing that man hurt a lot of people," she said Wednesday.

Watson says Dawson was beloved.

“He was a teacher, he was a provider, he was a protector," she said. “What do I miss most? His kisses. Life’s hard, but to have somebody to do it with you and want to do it with you, it’s hard for someone to take that away from you."
