The teenage killer of Queensland grandmother Vyleen White has been sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified, had been found guilty of murdering Ms White after the 70-year was stabbed to death at an Ipswich shopping centre last year.
Chief Justice Helen Bowskill delivered her judgement in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Thursday morning, ordering the teenager to serve 60 per cent of the term, or less than 10 years in prison, before he could be paroled.
Time already served meant the teenager would be released in 2033.
Speaking outside the courthouse, Sky News Brisbane Reporter Kaiser Shields said the Chief Justice classified the case as “particularly heinous” and described Ms White’s murder as “callous and cowardly”.
