Now Sarpanches and Panches will have to take approval before going abroad

Chandigarh, November 13, 2025: Now Sarpanches and Panches of villages of Punjab will have to take approval from concerned authorities before going abroad.

Panchayat and Rural Development department has issued instructions in this regard to District Development and Panchayat Officers (DDPOs) and ADCs informing them of the new provision.

According to letter issued in this regard, it was said that development works in villages is hindered due to abroad trips of Sarpanches and Panches. Thus they will have to take permission from the department before going abroad. There are more than 23 thousand Sarpanches and more than 83 thousand panches in the state.
