PORTLAND, Ore. — A North Portland couple is thankful as the community steps up to help fund a new wheelchair after their previous one was stolen off their front porch.

David Staley relies on his wheelchair to leave the house following a car crash 12 years ago that left him with a traumatic brain injury. Last Friday, his wife discovered the chair had vanished from their front porch.

The theft was particularly devastating because the couple had just purchased the wheelchair out of pocket after a state-provided chair broke down and replacement coverage was denied.
