A 50-year-old woman has been arrested by detectives looking into the suspicious death of a grandmother found at a home in October.

Irene Selmes, 84, was discovered in the bedroom of her Comet St property in Melonba, in Sydney ’s northwest, by emergency services called there about 12.30pm on Saturday, October 4.

NSW Police launched a special task force to investigate and took a woman into custody on Thursday afternoon.

At this stage, police have said only that the 50-year-old woman was taken to Mount Druitt Police Station following her arrest on Comet St, and that inquiries are ongoing.

The incident rocked the local community, with neighbours telling 7NEWS in the hours after Selmes was found that they were concerned and desperate for answers.
