LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — The Las Vegas Grand Prix races back into town next week.

Before the festivities start, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is preparing to keep Las Vegas safe while hosting the large event.

“Even though this is the third year we are hosting the Las Vegas Grand Prix, we refuse to be complacent in our preparation, we refuse to be complacent in our staffing, and we refuse to be complacent in our messaging. We know that a large-scale event like this is something that we could never let our guard down,” said Undersheriff Andrew Walsh.

Walsh also took the time to draw attention to a concerning rise in traffic deaths in the valley. So far this year, 139 people have died on local roadways. Metro says these deaths are a stark reminder to change our behavior behind
