BILLINGS, Mont. – A creative initiative is underway in Billings to assist residents with court fines while supporting those in need. The Billings Municipal Court is running a "Food for Fines" program for the next week.
For each nonperishable food item donated, participants can receive a $10 credit toward city fines, with a maximum of $200 per person. However, fines sent to collections and restitution payments are not eligible.
Amie Flick, the Treatment Court Program Manager, explained the dual benefit of the program.
"We have a lot of people in treatment court who rely on SNAP and benefits like that, and this is just a really good way for people to take care of both at one time. It's a win-win situation," said Flick.
